Higher Educator Efficacy

Reed (2018) surveyed 1,182 teachers in a school district with widespread implementation of The Catalyst Approach to determine its impact on teachers' belief in their own ability to positively impact student success (efficacy). Earning certification is one way to measure implementation, so the study compared levels of certification to levels of teacher efficacy and found that:

  • Earning Standard Certification was correlated with higher levels of efficacy in the areas of engaging students and managing the classroom.
  • Standard Certification was significantly correlated with increased efficacy in the area of management.
  • Demonstration Certification, which is the most rigorous level of certification, correlated with significantly higher teacher efficacy in all three areas.
